Mission

EASSI is a hub committed to campus and community audiences for innovative public programming, site-specific exhibitions, public research, and educational activities for K-20 and beyond. By becoming a unique catalyst for interdisciplinary conversations and relationship building, EASSI will be a design, staging and engagement space for projects aimed to bring community into our research and to take our research and dialogue to the community, reaching people that may otherwise not be contacted. In this manner, we will contribute to the UTEP mission and impact.

Goals & Objectives

EASSI is not pursuing a particular line of research but interdisciplinary research that merges the sciences, arts, engineering, and education for social impact. Our projects may have different research questions, populations and mechanisms, but all projects feed into and share the following objectives:

Short-term: adhere to the EASSI mission and utilize the IDRB space and funding for a framework of EASSI operating procedures that serve as the foundation for mid- and long-term goals; (

Mid-term (over 2 years): execute projects and funded work under the EASSI mission, which builds data, funding and expertise that can be cross-utilized;

Long-term (over 4 years): forge an ongoing multi-institutional and funded IDR cluster dedicated to social impact, capacity building for faculty and researchers, and effective training of interdisciplinary students.

It is in this manner that diverse stakeholders, from substance use treatment facilities to school districts to government policy makers, intersect with EASSI and with whom we will expand our collective community impact.
